And I should have busy hands as well but do not…how come? I have several projects in front of me and the sun on the river next to me, and I am getting a sore neck turning to look out the window all the time! Poor me!
The water is going down nicely today; I must have been thirsty for water, which may be caused by yesterday’s salted nacho chips. If I am not mistaken, La Nop makes their own chips and I eat them without salsa or the cheese that Cassidy likes so well. Last week I described myself as being bland due to my food choices but Tracy insists that is not so! Yesterday Julia told me “you are not vanilla”, but I really am when it comes to my food preferences.
When Martie is through working, she is coming over to dig through the donated items from Cindy to see what can be used in her card making and such. I wish Chris N. could come, too, but I have not heard back from her about stopping by. Both those ladies make the miniature trading cards for swapping all around the world so make use of pieces of ribbon, schnibbles (sorry, Lisa!), things I would normally discard.
The morning is not a total waste as I have edited and then printed the attendance sheets for church, having some names to remove since the quarterly meeting a few weeks ago. The names of those who remain on the membership rolls but no longer attend I do not include which makes the process proceed more quickly, without having to skip around very much.
I prepared some items for posting on the bulletin boards, including a sign-up sheet for our Ladies’ Group outing coming up April 18th, to La Nopalera (wonder whose idea THAT was?) When I sent the info to the church sec’y. to include in the service folder, I had accidently written “February 18”, but it was caught and corrected. In the meanwhile though, she called to tell me about it, asking if I really meant to write February or should it be April. I was a smarty pants and told her we were doing long-range planning for next year…..Yes, of course, it is April, my dear……people like to push my buttons!
Oooh, it’s hot here at my desk right now. This is not a complaint, merely an observation. We might see 90 above zero today which may call for a trip to Whitey’s to sit on the deck again after Martie is done looking through the scrapbooking supplies. This might account for the water drinking to be going so well. While I do not mind drinking the tap water I have refrigerated, a bottle of water would be nice, too, so much more portable, and would not dirty a glass. The height of laziness going on here….
Some time was spent on the sundeck last evening, as I had the night before. One of the fellows that comes for the summer had joined us, Al, to whom I had shown my condo last year after the Great Flood. One of the ladies mentioned last night that Al would like to buy a Unit here instead of renting a place on The Club property. He is married but his wife stays behind in Brussels, not interested in coming this direction, so he comes alone. I think he still works although he is ‘retirement’ age.
Anyway, Al had a new camera and was having fun taking photos of people, places and things. A major function was taking place at The Club which drew everyone’s interest. It was the largest event they’d ever hosted so tables were even set up outdoors on this gorgeous evening. Al took several pictures of the group around the table on our sundeck, and then he looked at me, and said, “You always look the same…” which made me laugh. That was NOT the first time anyone has said that to me so last night I took my wedding album down to show him. Unfortunately Al was not there but some of the others wanted to see it. They said I looked like a teenager, which, of course, I was. They loved seeing me lined up with all my sisters, and parents. Mini-dresses! Standing at the altar, no less…. “It’s the 70’s,man--- it’s hammer time!” (a modification on a Kramer quote…)
One lady, Betty, and her daughter, Kathy, came up to look at the scrapbooking stuff and to see my house. They loved it, Kathy said it transported her. That is a great compliment. But when we walked in, we were greeted by the smell of sewage. I thought, ‘now what???” but then we realized the river level was extremely low which brought the gentle aroma through my open patio doors. Fortunately for Betty, her sniffer does not work anymore, so she was not bothered by it.
Earlier I got a notice from a Facebook friend, saying, “Everyone is asking where you are…usually you are here taking pictures…” At first I wondered where Tara was and why I would be there, and then I remembered it was Easter4Kids at church today. Tara assured me she would take plenty of photos and send them to me for use in the newsletters. Normally I would do the reception table but there are others ‘involved’ now who can handle things so I did well staying home and basking in the sun at my own reception table!
Thursday night I attended the seminar about Social Security, curious about the subject matter, given the fact that it likely will be going away before I reach that age. While the lady presenting sort of talked around that possibility, it gradually occurred to me that this was all about buying annuities. After a certain point I eased myself from the room, choosing wisely to sit along the wall, and went to talk with Debbie at the desk. She had asked me a couple months ago about joining The Club so I had brought her the information. If she joins under my name, we each get a $100 credit on our accounts. This would be handy come cabana season!!!
When I got back home, I joined the others on the sundeck, and they asked me what I had learned. When I told them that it will be a while before I am even old enough to collect, the subject of age came up. I was not the youngest out there but a few folks were surprised (nice!!!) that I was as “old” as I am. One lady, Karen, asked me what I use to keep my skin to smooth, and I told her ‘butter’! I thanked her for the compliment and also was thankful that night was falling so she could not see me too clearly. She is a bit older than I am, but also thinner, which really makes the biggest difference, I believe. When Al shares the photos with me, I will post some so you can see the characters in this play!
