Since I got home about an hour ago, I have polished off my not-quite-full pitcher of water from the fridge and have another one on the way to be being chilled. Dare I say that I am proud of myself? Yes!
At Sonny’s BBQ, where I shared lunch with Judy C., Mike C., and Terri T., I had two very large glasses of Diet Coke plus a can when at church so I am good! The cup I am using to drink the water was my to-go drink the waiter fixed for me but has plenty of ice left in it. This water is needed to help wash down my vitamins, as I feel they stopped part way down in my esophagus or something. Perhaps I need a piece of bread to push them along, like when we were kids and had a popcorn hull stuck! Baklava would work, too, I bet---I won the door prize at the seminar the other night, which was a tray of baklava. So far I only had one piece from it…but I am not hungry in the least right now.
Oh, it’s so beautiful out there this afternoon, nice ‘n hot, with boats dotting the river both directions. So far no sign of Clarence and Clarice, the manatees, but they could be south of The Palace at the Capri having their lunch. The shore birds are busy, flying back and forth across my view, perching on the breakwater to rest, and then flying some more. My downstairs neighbor reported seeing yellow goslings but I have not spotted them yet. Their parents really make a commotion out there, sounds like a traffic jam, with all the honking.
Today at church, I got some good news---my BFF, Judy C., is planning to attend the Worship Conference in July. I might even stay in the dormitory with her but am not sure they will have a TV in the room, or Internet access. This might be a problem but I will have to overcome, in order to not have to rent a car. The other option is to take Justin’s portable DVD player with me so that I can at least watch/listen to that when I sleep. I know, it sounds weird, but it’s true! I am a high-maintenance houseguest when it comes to my sleeping! This is why I generally stay alone unless I am traveling with Justin or Lynn, my sister. So, now I have to firm up the plans with Lori, another sister, who will be celebrating her 60th birthday when I am up there. Lots of details to work out, and I might end up thumbing a ride from St. Peter to Winona and then to Holmen!
While I don’t particularly like to use the word ‘hate’, I will infer it in regard to putting the wash away. Perhaps that is too strong a word, but strongly dislike having to handle it once it is cleaned. It seems like such a terrible waste of time but I do so enjoy having clean clothes and towels and such. It’s the part in between that I am not crazy about doing. What I do like to do is sit at this desk or lie on my bed with the computer…as I explained to Erica, the young lady with whom I play Trivia on Tuesdays, words were pouring out of me yesterday so she soaked up the rays for me. She was thinking that I might be poolside instead of window-side, but I had words leftover!
Martie and I did go through the bags of scrapbooking supplies yesterday and then went to sit on the deck at Whitey’s and have an early dinner. We were back here again before it even got dark so she could see just fine for driving home. She took two carry-out boxes home with her including part of mine because I tried their pollack and did not care for it. Plus we ordered an appetizer that was wwaayy huge for the two of us, so I sent that home with her as well. She went home with a carload of supplies and food, not bad for an afternoon’s work!
Yesterday was Easter4Kids at church which I understand went very well. One particular parent from the community brought four children, went through the registration process, and then took them inside the church for the opening devotion. When the kids were dismissed to their ‘station’ centers, the mom came up to someone and asked, “Isn’t there going to be an Easter egg hunt?”, and when it was explained what this event actually was, she gathered the kids together and left! Nothing on the signs or handouts mentioned an Easter egg hunt but from the world’s standpoint, that is what Easter is all about. Man, it would have been great for the kids, and for her, to hear about the real story, the work the Savior did for them, and not about eggs.
I was slow getting going on Saturday morning because I stayed up quite late watching the news in regard to the signing of the budget agreement. When it finally happened, averting the gov't. shut down, I changed the station and rolled over, to fall asleep. It took me a while and then, bright and early, I was awake. Groggy, but awake---ugh!
I did a little weeping at church today….quite unexpectedly, too. After I had taken my seat in the pew, I heard the door open, and turned to see who it was. In came a young mom with her three kids in tow, with the oldest boy, Samuel, in the lead. There he was---sporting a knit polo shirt and a clip-on tie. Just like Timmy used to do! Immediately, tears rolled (as Carol says, it’s the surprise that gets us!). I was seated with Judy J. and I whispered to her about what I saw. Then, one of the readings was about Lazarus being raised from the dead, which was used at Timmy’s funeral. And then we sang one of the hymns I like so well, “Jesus Lives, the Victory’s Won”---This shall be my confidence!
This photo was taken Thursday evening by a guest of The Club, using his new camera. I think Al has got the hang of taking photos already! *sigh*
