A day of rest

For the most part, it was a restful day, at least, the afternoon was. The morning was busy and full with church activities.

I had to leave earlier than usual in order to stuff the mailboxes. As I pulled out of my parking space, I saw the rescue squad coming down the lane with its lights flashing. Oh, oh! I pulled into a stall to let them pass, and then saw them pull to the end of the lot, and appear to be looking around. I pulled back in and asked if they needed any help. They asked me for Palmer. I said there is no Palmer in The Palace. One EMT said they were looking for Palmer at Club Continental in the 2200 block…I tried to tell him this was The Palace and my mind went totally, I mean, TOTALLY, blank as to my address. I was flustered to begin with but knew they needed to go south to find 2200. Ach!!!

I told the guys the buildings at The Villas have little signs in front of them identifying the clusters of units and I hope they eventually found the one they were looking for. How scary it is to not be able to find someone who needs help…or to be the ones waiting for help! When I came home later, I drove around through The Villas and did find a building named d’ Palma.

So, anyway, I stopped at the CPA’s office and slipped my envelope of taxes through the slot in the door. I did a hit ‘n run there, not having to face the displeasure, being late getting them dropped off. My niece who works for an accounting firm reported her boss is about 2/3 done with his work and has almost 6 weeks left before they due. I hope that lasts…maybe people like me will be dropping them off yet this week!

When I got to church I was only the 3rd car in the lot. In the empty church I stuffed the mailboxes with the Time and Talent Sheets plus the booklet, put a recipe in Judy J.’s mailbox, and then carried my cherry doughnut holes to the classroom for the Mission reception. I could not find a regular basket for the collection money so had to take a smaller one. I taped the Befriend a Mission sign to it, and hoped it would be too small for the door collection. Then, at last, I settled into a seat to await the start of Bible study. Gretchen gave me a hug and kiss, feeling badly about my disaster again. She is such a pal!

Before class began, I shared a picture of my mom with three of her great-grandsons, who live near Janesville. I had promised to take the picture along to church and finally remembered to do so. Everyone said Mom looks great!

I had to leave class before it was over to go rehearse with the choir. We sang another psalm today from the Celebration series that Robbie requested for the choir. It went well. One man said when he turned around he expected to see 20 people, but it was only 5 of us, one being a man. Our choir looks larger and sounds large, even though we are few!

Since it was a special LWMS Mission Sunday, we followed a variation on the order of service, and sang more mission minded hymns. One congregational hymn we rehearsed in choir was NOT my favorite but suitable for singing for missions, from the Supplement. A real toe-tapper, African spiritual. Sadly, ahem ahem, Robbie was not able to secure drums for our use…I did suggest I wear my caftan from the Bahamas but we opted for choir robes instead.

After church, I went back into the classroom to hang up my robe, and gave Jim B. the money collected at the door. It appeared to be a couple hundred dollars, with one young mom putting in 8 cents, digging deep in the bottom of her purse. I told her it was given from the heart and we appreciated her donation. Both of her children complimented me on my earrings, which I found quite amusing. They were the ones given me by David and Lori for my birthday a few years ago, when David sneaked over to Great Hang Ups right behind Lori and I to buy them. The ladies helped him select and Lori had no idea what he bought. He (they) did great in picking them out---go with many of my outfits!

Judy, Michael, Justin, and I went to Chili’s (you don’t say!) for lunch. Before we left church, Justin told Robbie that I am like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory---Sunday is Chili’s; Monday is Longhorn; Tuesday is Johnny Angels; Wednesday is cheap McDonald's burger night; Thursday is the Town Center Mall; and Friday is breakfast at The Club. And I always have to sit facing the door!

I brought home three of the potato skins and one chicken tender to have another time. Perhaps later on tonight! Right now, a big basket of unfolded laundry awaits me…must get at it!
