Every bit of me wants to go and lie down on the bed for more sleep right now, before my clock strikes noon. Ugh! It was quite late when I went to bed finally last night after the fabulous Packer victory over the N.O. Saints. It took me a while to go to sleep and then took much to keep me asleep, as I think my upstairs neighbor’s cat knocked something over in the bathroom or bedroom which jarred me awake. It only happens on rare occasions but my senses are extra keen (yes, the water thing….) so my heart was racing for a period of time.
The good news was the Hallmark network came in on my TV (it often is not there….) but the bad news was it showed that wretched program with the four woman living together in Miami. I cannot think of the name of it, but it is vile! Oh, it just came to me: Golden Girls. Yeah, right….Switching to Fox News brought a replay of the job spending bill speech so I found “Friends” reruns to fall asleep to.
All the while I was in bed, the smell of smoke was in my rooms, as once more fires are smoldering and sending their smoke across Jacksonville and down the river. My neighbor, Randy, expressed this a.m. his dismay that now that it is cool enough to have doors and windows open, we get smoked out! I told him it was like sleeping in the woods around a campfire…as if I would know!
It seems to me that I never mentioned how Linda J. had the privilege of teaching Randy how to play cribbage when she was here. He had asked me if any of my houseguests knew how to play. When I told him Linda knew how, he said he would come down to play. Well, on the Sunday that Linda had suffered from the heat, Lynn and I had gone out to the pool, nice and cool out there, while Linda rested. When we came in, we put our night clothes instead of redressing, and enjoyed leftovers from our picnic for dinner. We ladies were casually dressed, watching “Julie and Julia”, when the doorbell rang, and there was Randy with a bottle of wine and his cribbage board! Linda and he were going to play, while I had my laptop at the table and Lynn worked a puzzle. When he heard I did not drink wine, he ran upstairs and came back with a bottle of whipped cream vodka. I have not tasted it yet, but Justin said it is delicious mixed with root beer, supposedly tastes like a float! Randy said someone brought it to a party at his house and left it there so now it’s mine!
So, there we are, seated around the table, and Linda ready to play. Only, here’s the thing, Randy does not know how to play!!! He was there for instruction. Linda was in a leadership role, quite a reversal for her student, I must say. His board was supposedly hand-crafted with brass insets between the rows where the pegs go in. It turned out to be an interesting evening after all. Not long before this visit, I had told Randy I was sorry that he rarely got to see me in my clothing, as he visited me when I was sick and had the hail storm, and also sees me in my swimsuit more than fully clothed. But that night, it was three of us in our nightwear---and he survived!

HI Kim,
Just one little correction to you blog today. The game I taught Randy was cribbage, not canasta. Close but no cigar! That really wan an interesting evening, wasn't it!
Love and cool sunny hugs!
Linda J
Hi Linda!
Oh my goodness, that's right. Someone else mentioned canasta to me and that is what made me think of Randy and you playing cards. I will change it...
Do you remember the lady who was after me to play tennis? Now, she wants me to play bridge! Of all things....people do not break down my door to play Scrabble, for heaven's sake. That's because we are all cheaters, according to Randy!
Cool and smoky hugs to you!
Kim
Hi Kim,
I cannot picture your playing bridge! They are just afraid to take you on in a game of scrabble!
Their loss, I say! all the fun they would miss!
Sleep tight!
Linda J
Hi again:
Nope, I think I am too young to play bridge, except those ladies in "The Help" played, didn't they????
Having not played Scrabble in a long time, I am sure I am quite rusty, so Randy might stand a chance with this cheater!
Hugs,
Kim
